That is one word that I can't seem to say to your parents. Tried again this evening and the phone is still always busy. Dunno. How is Robby? How are your parents if it comes to that? It's still about 80 degrees here, inside and outside. And sticky. And probably thunderstorms later. Inland already, but there is a little sea breeze that might hold them back from the coast for a while. UGH! I am tired of this weather. The daylilies look happy however. J

i have not called anybody today and no one has called me. so i know nothing. it seems a teensy bit unlikely that the phone has been off the hook for more than a day, but not entirely out of the question.
we got our little cold front and thunderstorms in mid afternoon and it does feel a lot better now. i am working on a quilt for oise and one for andrea's niece, anna, whose 2nd birthday is possibly today. my quilts have the alphabet or alfabetto appliqued on and freestanding letters (lettere) that live in zipper pockets. i am quite pleased with it and it is my invention. however, i am in the tacking phase which is booooooooooooring. my dog, batman, is on the DL. last saturday he suddenly got lame on the left front corner of himself but it seems to be shoulder or neck. it is impossible for me to figure out exactly where. today i foolishly let him trot too far on a little walk and he has lost ground, so to speak. it is surprisingly mood dampening to have the happy pet so sad and pathetic. also china and i need our dog walks in order to keep our figgers but we can't sneak off and break the bat's heart. bummer.

Thanks for the groundwork. I was busy replying to an e-mail from an about-to-be tenant who does not seem to understand that it is necessary to make decisions in a timely fashion when you have a bunch of trades lined up to follow one other quickly on a big reno job. Screw up the first guy and it screws up everyone's schedule and that means they don't automatically all come in one or two or three days later. I won't tell you about all the headaches this week, because I am trying to forget them.
Too late to take ice cream to Crow Point, but I will do it this weekend. I will go see Robby this weekend too. Room 210, MidCoast Hospital, 123 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011. Your father said that Robby is doing well, but was in considerable pain today. He will stay there until they can get him to move around, and it will take a while for him to learn to walk with this thing. So, unclear how long he will be there. Plus, your father drily noted, with Beth's clan there, he might not be so eager to go home anyway. . . . Talk about your lousy timing.
Do you have any plans to come to Maine later in the summer? Or sometime? Thanks for clearing the decks. Further reports later. J

i gather they will force him to have some physical therapy. one of the many many things that makes me angry is that he essentially never had any after he lost his mobility during the maine medical event in 2001. i am sure he was recommended to therapy but he didn't go more than a couple of times and then decided he'd do it himself during all of his spare time. ha ha. i can well imagine that in this case he'll do what he has to until they let him out. physical therapying him up to his 'normal' level of mobility will be an interesting challenge.
i gather that the descent of mom and marie is an annual summer event. i know that last summer when they stayed three weeks or some such looooong time, that even beth was in a hurry for it to be over, and she's the brilliant one who makes the arrangements. robby revealed to all outside his immediate circle anyway that he found it to be way too long, as did charlie. he told me that he had to be careful because although he likes her fine and he is sympathetic to her, it was difficult for him to be patient with marie. in my opinion, beth is an absolute i don't know what. absolute anyway. why can't she make the summer relaxing for robby and for herself. she seems to be a person who needs to overextend and then complain about it, which would be fine if it were only herself. she has had family come for weeks at a time each and every summer that he has been sick, whether a little sick or with actual crises. in fact one of the times that he could hardly move for one reason or another, i know he was left for some amount of time babysitting marie who was swimming in the pool and it was all he could do to even stay awake.
whoo - obviously i can go on like this ad infinitum. sorry.
i don't know when i will come to maine. i had rather intended to come at summer's end but we seem unable to sell our house so that makes an impediment. i will forward to you an email i wrote to john, so i don't have to put my whiny self out writing it again. ed figured that if i would go to portland oregon this month, the house would sell because there would be the inconvenience of me not being here at an important time. i am going from 8/16 to 8/23 or something like that, for sarah's b'day, a little detail that i haven't happened to tell my parents yet. i'm not hiding it, i just haven't mentioned it. anyway, my ma will never realize that i have headed in the wrong direction. ed's going to portland in september for eloise' birthday. so we did get two offers after ed put his send me out of town plan into action, but one evaporated and the other - who the hell knows. actually this slightly relates to what you mentioned about a gonna be tenant not quite understanding how a schedule works. our "buyers" don't seem to get how this real estate stuff is supposed to progress. my god, i hate people. the world, or this country anyway, is just jam packed with idiots. extremely cross is my default outlook these days. i imagine this will all work out but jeeeesus why does it have to be so hard. anyway, you are completely familiar and have better reason than i.
